A continuum is a continuous sequence or progression. In child development, a continuum is used to describe the basic milestones of development. The child development continuum has a wide range of normalcy as not all children develop skills at the same rate.

A continuum is a continuous progress in achieving basic development. Continuum, as it relates to kids, is starting out with a basic idea/action and moving toward more complex ideas/actions (i.e crawling, standing, walking running). Often times, especially with kids, it is normal for their to be lapses before progress is made.
