Children have individual differences in needs. For example, I have two children in my class that are independent and dependent in alternate ways. I have a little girl in my class that needs a lot of one on one time or needs to be physically close to me during active hours at school. At nap time though she can go to sleep all by herself. The boy in my class is very independent and for the most part plays with other children or himself exclusively. But, once nap time rolls around he wants an adult to help him go to sleep.
