How do professionals get to know the children and families in their care / program?

There are many ways of achieving this. You can do art projects that have the kids draw, paint, or craft their families. Communicating with the parents also helps to get to know them like having updated reports, meetings, and bulletins. You can ask the kids how they would describe their families. You can also offer parents to volunteer for your center. Also having events for the families can help you get to know them as well.

One of the best ways a professional can get to know the children/families in their care is to make an effort to interact with each member of the family on a personal level at every opportunity. When you have a classroom of children, it's important to find time to relate to each child one on one to form a personal relationship with them, and to have conversations that will support their emotional and intellectual development. Similarly, it's important to touch base with parents not only through conferences, but on a day to day basis. By forming personal relationships with the parents through discussions of their child and the work the child is doing at school along with discussions about home life a professional can better work with the parent to support the child, and have a deeper understanding of the world the child lives in.
