Understanding a child's development is useful in that it allows a teacher to assess how to create a curriculum and environment that will scaffold the child's learning and development. In addition, knowing how a child develops is necessary for knowing when a child needs certain things done for them, and when they are ready to do those things for themselves.

Understanding a child's development is helpful in that it allows teachers to know where children need more attention and work in certain areas. It can allow teachers to better prepare curriculum that is both appropriate and challenging for all students in their class.
