Before speaking to a family about possible developmental red flags it is important to go over your thoughts with your co-workers to come up with the best way to word our concerns. It is also important to keep this information from other families ears and only talking to the family when we have a private moment. The delivery of the observations must also be objective and nonjudgemental of the child.

  • Develops through a combination of nature and nurture.
  • Begins development in the prenatal stage.
  • Grows to fit its' environment by connections (or synapses) made between neurons.
  • Uses synapses to send brain impulses, controlling the body, mind, feelings, memory and language.
  • Is wired on a "use it or lose it" system. Synapses are created and strengthened with use, and wither away if unused.
